Economically-active population reaches 1164.1 thousand
SocietyUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ According to a survey on labor force by fourth quarter of 2015, the number of labor force aged above 15 or the total economically-active population (EAP) of Mongolia reached 1164.1 thousand.
624.6 thousand or 53.7% of the EAP are men, and the rest--46.3% are women. Moreover, 662.9 thousand or 56.9% of the EAP live in urban areas, and 501.2 thousand or 43.1%--in countryside.
Participation level of labor force showed 60.5% at a national level in fourth quarter of 2015. It is 54.1% in the city and 71.6%--in localities. In the period, the number of employed increased by 26.9 thousand or 2.6%, the unemployed--by 9.5 thousand or 10.9% and the number of EAP--by 19.0 thousand or 2.6% against the previous year (2014).
761.5 thousand or 39.5% of the total people aged 15 or above are belonged to EAP, 40.3% of them are male and 59.7% are female.
Moreover, 258.8 thousand or 34.0% of the economically non-active population are students, 224.2 thousand or 29.4%-- pensioners and elders, 91.7 thousand or 12.0%--people caring children, 55.5 thousand or 7.3%--people with disabilities, and 53.7 thousand or 7.1%--home employed.
In fourth quarter of 2015, the number of unemployed reached 96.5 thousand nationwide. 56.4 thousand or 58.4% of them are male, and 40.1 thousand or 41.6%--are female. In the period, the unemployment rate reached 8.3%, increasing by 0.6 unit against the previous year.
