Number of livestock increases to almost 56 million heads

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ According to preliminary results of the 2015 livestock census, Mongolia has 55 million 957.6 thousand heads of livestock, the National Statistical Committee (NSO) reported Thursday.

The result shows a 7.6% or three million 975.0 thousand heads increase against 2014. A number of horse reached 3,294.6 thousand, cattle--3,779.5 thousand, camel--367.9 thousand, sheep--24,933.4 thousand, goat--23,582.2 thousand heads. Comparing to the 2014 census, the number of horses went up by 298.8 thousand, cattle--by 365.6 thousand, camel--by 18.6 thousand, sheep--by 1,718.6 thousand and goat--by 1,573.3 thousand.

Among all kinds of the animals, horses accounted for 5.9%, cattle--6.8%, camels--0.7%, sheep--44.6%, goats--42.1%.

In 2015, the number of livestock declined by 3.5-36.2 thousand in Orkhon, Selenge and Darkhan-Uul aimags, increased by 18.3-399.5 thousand in other aimags. The livestock number went up by the largest numbers in Khentii, Bayankhongor, Dundgobi, Gobi-Altai and Ovorkhangai aimags.

All kinds of animals have grown in Bayan-Olgii, Bayankhongor, Gobi-Altai, Dornogobi, Dornod, Dundgobi, Zavkhan, Ovorkhangai, Omnogobi, Tov, Uvs, Khovd, Khovsgol, Khentii aimags and in Ulaanbaatar city.

Ovorkhangai aimag counted the largest number of livestock (four million 511.0 thousand), being followed by Arkhangai (4,457.0 thousand), Tov (4,444.9 thousand), Khovsgol (4,397.2 thousand) and Bayankhongor (3,771.8 thousand).
