Law on Prosecutor revised
The parliament adopted revised law on Prosecutor, during today’s plenary meeting. The bill, consisting of 8 chapters and 70 articles, was submitted last April. Law on Prosecutor’s office was adopted in 1993 and revised in 2002 and has being amended 8 times since then. The law was needed to be revised to coordinate the law with changes in social relations, judiciary reforms, renewed laws and bills applicable to criminal procedure.

Khukh Tsav Cement Plant to begin operation
The opening ceremony of Mongolyn Alt Corporation’s (MAK) Khukh Tsav Cement Plant is taking place today, on June 9. The cement plant, which was planned to start operating in the first quarter of 2017, is capable of processing 1 million tons of cement per annum. Located in Dalanjargalan soum of Dornogobi aimag, Khukh Tsav Cement Plant was established with a total investment of USD 331 million.

Excise tax on hybrid cars to be refunded
During the Parliament’s plenary session on June 8, the first reading of bill on Excise tax procedural regulations was held. In order to join the Extended Fund Facility program of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), amendments were made to the Excise Tax Law, resulting in excise taxes to be imposed on hybrid, natural gas and electric vehicles. Specifically, these types of cars, which had been exempt from excise tax, started paying taxes between MNT 375,000 and MNT 6,675,000 based on the vehicle's date of manufacture since May 1.

Austrian Mongolian Music Festival is to take place on June 11-12 in Ulaanbaatar. The Austrian Cultural forum in Beijing organizes the event jointly with the Mongolian State Philharmonic, Goethe Institute, Jazz Club and JazzLab Music Agency.

Buzz Aldrin, second man to land on Moon, visiting Mongolia
A member of the famous Apollo 11 spacecraft crew, an American aviation engineer, retired colonel and NASA astronaut Buzz Aldrin arrived in the capital of Mongolia on June 8, at the invitation of "Shine Mongolyn Toloo Sanaachlaga' NGO (Initiative for new Mongolia).

Student police start their activities
The National Police Agency, Ulaanbaatar Tourism Department and Students' Union of Mongolia launched ‘Tourist friendly campaign-2017’ yesterday, June 8. Some 30 students with English language knowledge selected from 125 students of universities and institutes were trained on tourist safety and security, city tour, historical and cultural sightseeing and have started to work as student police and tourist guide, establishing a labor contract with the Police Department of Ulaanbaatar.

Parliament approves resolution regarding Bank of Mongolia’s loss of MNT3 trillion
A Parliamentary working group revealed that Bank of Mongolia (BoM) has an accumulated loss of MNT3.1 trillion. The working group examined the activities of  BoM in 2012-2016 and concluded that necessary measures have to be taken immediately.

Herdsman-turned-photographer wants everyone to adore Mongolia
A photographer and livestock herder S.Tsengelbayar from Xilingol League of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China is the first Inner Mongolian photographer to ever throw an independent exhibition in Mongolia. S.Tsengelbayar named his exhibition, opened in Gamma Gallery in Hunnu Mall of Ulaanbaatar, “I am a Mongolian”. The exhibition wrapped up on June 7.

Lunch cost for students of special schools to be raised
A mid-day meal cost for per student, who studies in special schools will be increased to MNT2400, starting next September. The Government made this decision yesterday, June 7, considering that nutritious and nourishing meal provision for children,  particularly the children with disabilities, would influence positively their health and would be a vital support for their successful studies. Increase of funding would give a possibility to provide 40-45 per cent of daily nutrition need of children with the lunch.

During its regular meeting on June 7, Wednesday, the Cabinet agreed to discuss with corresponding Parliamentary standing committees a draft financing agreement on ‘Development Policy program to support economic administration and Development policy funding-1’ between the Government of Mongolia and the World Bank’s International Development Association.

During its regular meeting on June 7, Wednesday, the Cabinet resolved that state-run ‘Mongolian Oil Refinery’ will execute ‘Oil refinery construction project’, with the required fund being allocated from the budget of the Minister of Mining and Heavy Industries.

JCI Asia-Pacific Conference opening in Ulaanbaatar
3,500 young leaders and business people from 51 countries are arriving in Ulaanbaatar to participate in the Junior Chamber International (JCI) Asia-Pacific Conference 2017, which will take place between June 8 and 11. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a press conference today in collaboration with JCI. “The Ministry has been assisting in organizations concerning the visa issuance and diplomatic reception. It can be said that the preparation is complete. This conference is of great significance for Mongolia as it is creating great networking opportunities”, said Deputy Foreign Minister B.Battsetseg.

“Yak of Saikhan” festival held at Gurvansaikhan Mountain
‘Yaks of Saikhan- 2017” festival was held on May 27 at Yoliin am (Yol Gorge) of Gurvan Saikhan Mountains in Khankhongor soum of Umnugobi aimag. Some 1500 domestic and 60 foreign travelers and tourists attended the festival, which has been organized since 2012. Herders of five soums took part in the festival with their 500 yaks, competing in yak race and relay competition. Challenges named after soums, contest of best breed yaks and cows, games and contests, presenting customs related to yak entertained the audience.

MNT 50.5 billion issued for mortgage in May
The Government and Bank of Mongolia provided financial source of MNT50.5 billion to commercial banks for mortgage loans in May.  722 citizens were granted mortgage from this source. The Bank of Mongolia funded loans of MNT15.9 billion with its primary payments of its mortgage guaranteed bonds while 457 citizens mortgage loans of MNT34.6 billion was financed from the State budget.
