Parliament Speaker's advisor holds online meeting with EBRD Representative

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. On October 2, Senior Advisor to the Speaker of Parliament D.Lundeejantsan held an online meeting with Hannes Takacs, head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Resident Office in Mongolia.
Emphasizing about the projects and programs carried under and under implementation by the EBRD in Mongolia, Mr. Lundeejantsan thanked for the cooperation.
In addition, Mr. Lundeejantsan asked for support in strengthening the capacity to translate laws related to investment and foreign trade, into English at the project stage and/ or as soon as they have been passed, to make the legal environment more transparent to investors. He also noted that the State Great Khural of Mongolia (Parliament) aims to become an e-parliament and it was decided to establish an interim committee responsible for foreign trade and investment at the Parliament.
Director of the Parliamentary Research Institute of the Secretariat of the Parliament T.Bayarmaa, who was present at the meeting, provided some information on the priorities and functions of the Parliamentary Research Institute and stressed the need of strengthening the capacity to translate laws into English. Mr. Hannes Takacs expressed his position on the possibility to cooperate in the capacity building of the Secretariat of the Parliament while talking about the EBRD’s support given to Mongolia in the past to improve relevant legal regulations.
Regional Lead Economist for Central Asia, EBRD Eric Livny, who also attended the online meeting, noted the research of a project towards developing SMEs, promoting manufacturers, improving competitiveness and develop their financial liquidity, which was carried out in countries, including Mongolia. He briefed on the result of the research. At the end of the meeting, the parties concurred to cooperate and decided to determine directions of cooperation at the next meeting.
