Foreign Minister holds video call with UNESCAP Executive Secretary

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. On August 24 Mr. N.Enkhtaivan,
Minister for Foreign Affairs had a video call with Ms. Armida Alisjahbana,
Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for
Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).
Minister N.Enkhtaivan highly valued UNESCAP’s support in tackling
socio-economic challenges in the region, developing sustainable development
policy proposals and providing technical assistance.
The Minister also requested UNESCAP to focus on implementing projects and
programs that will help overcome socio-economic challenges resulting from the
COVID-19 pandemic, such as reduced income and high unemployment rates.
The Executive Secretary Armida Alisjahbana congratulated the Minister on his
appointment, stressed Mongolia’s active engagement in the UNESCAP activities and
expressed readiness to cooperate in mitigating challenges and problems brought
by the pandemic.
Furthermore, the Executive Secretary highlighted some areas for strengthening
cooperation between Mongolia and UNESCAP, such as improving conditions of trade
and transport, reducing air pollution and urged Mongolia to accede to the
Framework Agreement on Facilitation of Cross-border Paperless Trade in Asia and
the Pacific.
