Journalists awarded for responsible mining promotion
SocietyUlaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ The Bank of Mongolia in partnership with ‘Sustainable artisanal mining’ project of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation announced ‘Let’s sell responsibly mined gold to our country’s treasury’ a competition to select best publications, photos and TV and radio programs, between November 7 and December 17.
“The Swiss
Agency for Development and Cooperation has been supporting Mongolian Government
in organizing and formalizing of ASM sector on which the livelihood of
thousands of peoples depends, through its Sustainable Artisanal Mining (SAM)
Project since 2005. The project is running at the 4th
phase and will finish in 2019. One of main
objectives of SAM project is formalization of ASM supply chain. In order to
promote responsible and transparent minerals’ sourcing, it is necessary to formalize
the gold supply chain, from the mine site to the assay office” noted Ilaria Dali, from the Swiss
Agency for Development and Cooperation and
thanked the journalists for their active participation.
Journalists
of televisions, newspapers, news websites and radios sent a total of some 30
works to the competition.
An award
ceremony of the competition was held on December 20. A journalist of ‘TV25’
Television received the first place in the category of TV program, followed by
D.Ganzorig, a journalist of ‘TV9’ Television.
T.Enkhbat,
journalist of ‘Unuudur’ Newspaper, topped the category of best
publication of newspaper and news website, followed by Ts.Myagmarbayar,
journalist of ‘Zuunii medee’.
D.Bayarjargal,
reporter of ‘Khurd Agency’ of the National Public Radio of Mongolia, and
A.Chimedtseren, photographer of ‘Undesnii shuudan’ newspaper, received awards
in the categories of best radio program and photo respectively.
The
competition aimed at promoting responsible mining practices and transparency of
gold supply chain, seeking solutions to resolve pressing issues of the
sector and disseminating correct understanding to public about gold alloy
laboratories and one-stop shop for gold purchasing established in Darkhan-Uul
and Bayankhongor aimags.
