Ulaanbaatar, October 16, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has arranged for the repatriation of two Mongolian nationals studying at the “Nyanang Phelgyeling” Monastery in Kathmandu, the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, via a special Delhi-Ulaanbaatar flight on October 16, 2025.
The Government of Nepal blocked access to 26 unregistered social media platforms on September 4, 2025, which coincided with the rise of the “Gen Z” protest movement, resulting in curfews and unrest in central Kathmandu. During this period, the Consular Department collected information on Mongolian citizens residing and studying in Nepal.
It was discovered that two Mongolian minors, 13-year-old O. Batbileg and 11-year-old O. Buyanjargal, had been studying at the “Nyanang Phelgyeling” Monastery since 2022 and had been unable to return home due to visa overstays since 2023. Acting on information from their families, the Consular Department worked with the relevant authorities to secure visa overstay fee waivers and exit permits for their safe return. As a result, the two were transported from Kathmandu to the Embassy of Mongolia in New Delhi on October 14 and are now being repatriated to Mongolia on October 16’s Delhi-Ulaanbaatar flight.
