Ulaanbaatar, May 29, 2025 /MONTSAME/. To mitigate the impacts of climate change, Mongolia and the Republic of Korea held the inaugural meeting of the Joint Coordinating Committee established under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement.
Under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement, Mongolia will receive investment and technological assistance from the Republic of Korea to resolve climate-related issues and, in return, transfer its carbon credits generated from its greenhouse-gas-emissions reductions to the Republic of Korea. At the meeting, the Mongolian side outlined its domestic policies and legal framework for implementing the Agreement, while the South Korean side presented cooperation proposals, including an intergovernmental initiative and a project to capture methane at the “Narangyn Enger” landfill in Ulaanbaatar City. The Committee also adopted its rules of procedure and the guiding principles for future actions.
At the meeting, the two sides agreed to conclude the master plan to implement comprehensive projects and measures to reduce Ulaanbaatar’s air pollution by 2025, under the Mongolia-Republic of Korea Intergovernmental Basic Agreement on Climate Change Cooperation signed in 2023.
