“Green Talks” speakers talk smog issues
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The first of “Green talks” themed series of meetings was held by the Freshwater Resources and Nature Conservation Center of the Ministry of Environment and Green Development.
The event was attended by Onejin Wu, Environment, Science and Health officer of the Embassy of the United States, Carlmont high school teacher P.Darisuren, Master of Social Health Clarence Wigfall and a representative of Princeton in Asia, William Danforth. The participants reported on the research and results of air pollution in Ulaanbaatar and gave presentation about air filter.
Master of Social Health, Clarence Wigfall, along with School of Social health of Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences has started their research on how the air pollution is affecting the expectant mothers and infants. The research will be conducted in a year in four areas including social health, pharmacology, psychology and technology, and will be publicized next year.
The speakers said “Mongolian government will definitely take measures on air pollution. But, instead of fully relying on the government, the public needs to prevent themselves, for example, wearing masks and using air filters at home. It is important that we protect our health”.
Ministry of Environment and Green Development, Specialized Inspection Agency of Ulaanbaatar, and City Department of Environment and Air pollution, Network project of Managed Resource Protected Areas, Mongolian Environmental Civil Council, representatives of the NGO against air pollution and the students of Eco-Asia Institute has attended the meeting and received answers to their questions.
Catherine Arnold, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Mongolia, along with the representatives of the British Embassy in Ulaanbaatar will be the next guests of the “Green Talks” series of meetings.
