Mongolia and Canada to Cooperate in Training English Language Teachers

Ulaanbaatar, September 17, 2024 /MONTSAME/. Minister of Education of Mongolia Naranbayar Purevsuren and the Minister’s Advisor D. Gantulga met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Mongolia Sandra Choufani on September 16, 2024.
At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on scholarships and cooperation in programs for training English language teachers.
Education Minister Naranbayar noted that the Mongolian Government’s Action Program for 2024-2028 reflects training 2000 Mongolian English language teachers in universities abroad and the Ministry of Education is implementing a policy that 20 percent of lectures in Mongolian universities run in English. The Minister proposed cooperating in establishing Mongolian-Canadian-funded scholarships, similar to Chevening and Fulbright scholarships to prepare English language teachers in Canada.
Ambassador Sandra Choufani underscored that Mongolia and Canada cooperate in education at various levels and Canada gives special attention to supporting preschool education. The Canadian Government’s Veloo Fund for supporting children of vulnerable groups in developing countries, established two kindergartens in Ger districts of Ulaanbaatar, which are Narnii Khuukhduud 1 and 2 at the Ulaanchuluut site. The Ambassador noted that Canada has been implementing the SEED Scholarship Program for countries in the ASEAN since 2017, and the Embassy is working to make Mongolian students eligible for the scholarship program.
The two sides concurred that education cooperation between Mongolia and Canada has been intensifying in recent years and expressed commitment to further expanding this cooperation, exchanging views on cooperation in training English language teachers.
