Mongolian Fencer Wins Bronze at Asia-Oceania Zonal Olympic Qualifier

Ulaanbaatar, April 30, 2024, /MONTSAME/ The Asia-Oceania Zonal Olympic Qualifier 2024 in the United Arab Emirates concluded on April 30, 2024. 


Mongolian fencing athletes Ts. Jigjidsuren and B. Amarzaya competed in this tournament. Competing in the women's epee category, B. Amarzaya won 6 matches against athletes from Malaysia, Kuwait, Taiwan, and Iran. 


In the elimination stage, she won against a Jordanian athlete with a score of 15:14. In the quarter-final stage, she won against an Australian athlete by 15:9 and proceeded to the semi-final stage. 


In the semi-final match, B. Amarzaya competed valiantly against Singaporean athlete Abdul Rahman, a 2020 Tokyo Olympics Qualifying Tournament champion, but lost by a narrow 2-point margin. Unfortunately, she did not qualify for the Olympic Games. This marks her second bronze medal from the Asia-Oceania region qualifying tournament.
