Speakers of Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan Hold Official Talks

Ulaanbaatar, 28, February 2024. /MONTSAME/. At the invitation of Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament) of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurlanbek Shakiev, Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia Zandanshatar Gombojav is paying an Official Visit to the Kyrgyz Republic on February 27-29, 2024.


On February 27, 2024, a Mongolian delegation led by Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia G. Zandanshatar laid a wreath at the Ata Beyit Memorial Complex in Bishkek. Then, Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia Zandanshatar Gombojav and Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurlanbek Shakiev held official talks.


At the outset of the official talks, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Shakiev expressed satisfaction with the actively expanding relations between Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan in politics, society, and economy.


Chairman Zandanshatar Gombojav emphasized, “Mongolia and the Kyrgyz Republic share deep historical and cultural ties and have friendly relations. As landlocked developing countries in Central Asia, there is an opportunity to exchange our development experiences and foster multilateral cooperation between the two countries in the future.” The Chairman highlighted that last year, a host of significant events made a significant contribution to deepening the traditional friendly relations between the two countries. These include the State Visit to Mongolia by President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadir Japarov, which consolidated Kyrgyzstan's position as one of Mongolia's important partners in Central Asia, and the Working Visit of Prime Minister of Mongolia Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai to the Kyrgyz Republic.


The Speaker of Parliament of Mongolia highlighted the visits as the catalyst for propelling Mongolia-Kyrgyzstan relations and strengthening people-to-people ties. The Speaker expressed satisfaction that the opening of the Kyrgyz Embassy in Mongolia in 2023, as part of the State Visit by the Kyrgyz President to Mongolia, was of high significance in developing relations between the two countries. Also, Mr. Zandanshatar expressed eagerness to increase the trade turnover between the two countries, export goods such as meat, meat products, leather, wool, and cashmere from Mongolia to Kyrgyzstan, and import fruits and vegetables from Kyrgyzstan to Mongolia.


Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurlanbek Shakiev expressed commitment to fully support Mongolia's efforts in developing regional cooperation. He expressed confidence that Mongolia-Kyrgyzstan inter-parliamentary cooperation would expand, given the recent continuous advancements in bilateral relations in the political, economic, cultural, and humanitarian sectors as well as the strengthening of people-to-people ties.


Speaker Zandanshatar stressed the importance of cooperation between Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan in the road, railway, and air transport sectors. In particular, he stressed the need to restore direct flights on the Ulaanbaatar-Bishkek route and to increase the seamless flow of citizens by fostering connections between the two countries' tourism operators. 


The two sides discussed enriching economic cooperation with new content, including promoting inter-regional relations, establishing Mongolia-Kyrgyzstan joint ventures in agriculture and light industry, and fostering bilateral cooperation in education and culture. They committed to supporting any initiatives related to these areas.


The two Speakers of Parliament agreed to proactively maintain frequent high-level visits under the parliamentary cooperation between Mongolia and the Kyrgyz Republic and intensify reciprocal visits and business meetings between standing committees, parliamentary groups, and secretariats.


Also, Chairman of the State Great Khural of Mongolia Zandanshatar Gombojav and Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurlanbek Shakiev signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the State Great Khural of Mongolia and the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Memorandum will establish a permanent inter-parliamentary consultation mechanism and expand relations and cooperation between Mongolia and the Kyrgyz Republic.
