Ulaanbaatar,
June 21, 2023 /MONTSAME/. At the invitation of Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly
of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Great
Khural (Speaker of the Parliament) G. Zandanshatar is paying an Official Visit
in the Russian Federation on June 18-22.
On June 19, the Speaker held official talks with
Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian
Federation Valentina Matvienko.
At the onset of the meeting, Speaker of the
Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina
Matvienko expressed her satisfaction with the development of traditional
friendly and neighborly relations between the two countries to the level of a
comprehensive strategic partnership, highlighting that Mongolia is an important
strategic partner of the Russian Federation.
Despite the geopolitical tensions and the Covid-19
pandemic, our two countries have maintained the frequency of reciprocal
high-level visits, demonstrating the level of bilateral relations between the
two countries.
Chairman of the State Great Khural G. Zandanshatar
emphasized that even though the Parties have been actively engaged in talks on
the elimination of import tariffs and reduction of non-tariff barriers imposed
on the export of wool, cashmere, meat, leather, and leather products from
Mongolia to Russia, a mutual understanding has not been reached.
In this context, the parties further discussed
opportunities to fix the imbalance in trade between the two countries by
jointly establishing a free-trade zone, reducing the tariff and non-tariff
barriers, and using other possible ways.
Then, Chairman of the State Great Khural G.
Zandanshatar and Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of
the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko signed a document to establish a Joint
Commission on Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation of the two countries. The Parties
agreed on convening the first meeting of the Joint Commission within this year.
