Public Demonstration Considered Under Control
PoliticsThe State Great Khural determined that the demonstration of the citizens who are making certain demands to the Government is under control.
More specifically, citizens staged a demonstration on December 4-5 in Ulaanbaatar, demanding the Government to take decisive action against the issue surrounding the mismanagement of the coal trade.
On December 5, in the afternoon, a tendency was revealed for the demonstration to escalate into mass riots as it was unorganized, the objective was unclear, and a large number of individuals who consumed alcoholic beverages were inciting the peaceful demonstrators to riot and provoking them to use force.
Therefore, the Governor of the Capital City and the Mayor of Ulaanbaatar made a decision to dismiss the demonstrators within the relevant laws and regulations.
Moreover, the State Great Khural convened on December 5, in the evening, to hear updates from the corresponding organizations and discuss the proposal put forward by the Minister of Justice and Home Affairs.
As a result, it was determined that it is not necessary to
declare a state of emergency. However, the State Great Khural did support
taking appropriate action in the event that the situation worsened in the
future based on the National Security Council’s recommendations.
