Interest expressed in cooperating with Sweden in renewable energy sector

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. A group of Swedish delegates led by First Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Riksdag Åsa Lindestam are currently visiting Mongolia. 

MP, Head of the Standing Committee on Security and Foreign Policy B.Battumur held a meeting with the delegates on May 23.

At the start of the meeting, Head of the Standing Committee on Security and Foreign Policy B.Battumur highlighted that the country aims to expand and develop relations between the two countries based on shared values such as democracy, human rights, freedom, and the rule of law. 

He expressed the country’s interest in further cooperating with the Kingdom of Sweden in areas including renewable energy, green development, environmental protection, climate change, and the sector of education and science.

Noting that Mongolia attaches importance to the Stockholm+50 international meeting convened by the UN General Assembly to be held in Stockholm, Sweden between June 2 and 3, the MP informed that officials of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism will be representing Mongolia at the event. 

Furthermore, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the Mongolian military's participation in UN peacekeeping operations. In the framework of the anniversary, an international conference on challenges and difficulties being faced for women’s participation in peacekeeping operations will be organized in Ulaanbaatar city from June 16 to 18. He then expressed gratitude to the side of Sweden for making the decision to have a representative participate in the conference.

First Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Riksdag Åsa Lindestam thanked the Head of the Standing Committee for making time to hold the meeting, and expressed her satisfaction in the realization of the plans to make a visit to Mongolia. During the visit of Mongolian parliament representatives to Sweden in 2009, the two sides exchanged views on democracy and gender equality. Thus, she expressed her interest in exchanging views regarding the matter with the Head of the Standing Committee as well as representatives of female MPs in the State Great Khural.

The sides also exchanged views on bilateral friendly relations and cooperation during the meeting.
