120 million trees to be planted in capital city

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. It is planned to plant 120 million trees in nine districts of Ulaanbaatar city by making rehabilitation and establishing forest protection strip. Reforestation in more than 12 hectares in Ulaanbaatar city will increase the forest area of the capital city to 23 percent.
At the meeting of the Governor's Council of the
Capital City, Deputy Mayor in charge of green development and air
pollution reduction P.Battur introduced a draft plan on the implementation of ‘One
billion trees’ nationwide campaign in the capital city.
“Three objectives have been set in the plan for 2022-2030.
Within the framework of the objectives, the measures will be taken for the
reduction of deforestation and degradation, reforestation and rehabilitation of
the area affected by forest fire and pests, and the expansion of forest area. Forest
protection strips will be established on an area covering 3.350 hectares. As a
result, it will become possible to expand gardening, reduce air pollution and
soil degradation, and increase the green area per capita,” said P.Battur.
‘One billion trees’ nationwide campaign is expected to be
implemented in three phases. The first phase or the preparatory phase will be
taking place in 2021-2024, and the second or the intensification phase will be
implemented in 2024-2026, while, the third or sustainable implementation phase
is planned for 2027-2030.
