Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Speaker of the State Great Khural G.Zandanshatar held a meeting with Ambassador of the French Republic to Mongolia Sebastien Surun.

At the beginning of the meeting, Speaker G.Zandanshatar congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment, emphasizing that the State Great Khural and the Government of Mongolia attach great significance to the friendly cooperation with France and that France is a third neighbor in Europe, with which Mongolia has shared values of democracy, human rights, freedom, and the rule of law.

Ambassador Sebastien Surun noted that the State Great Khural has a major role in strengthening democratic institutions in Mongolia and addressing numerous issues such as foreign affairs. Mentioning the Speaker’s participation in the Summit for Democracy, the French Ambassador confirmed his views on the parliament’s role in bilateral relations.

Speaker G.Zandanshatar said the summit focused on ensuring human rights and combating corruption, adding “The Parliament aims at becoming a legislature that respects human rights. A clear example of this effort is the establishment of a parliamentary group against corruption and the adoption of the law on conflict of interest”

The sides discussed the current state of relations and cooperation between the two countries. Moreover, the Speaker of State Great Khural underscored that the visit representatives led by chair of the French-Mongolian friendship group in the Senate of France Philippe Mouiller paid to Mongolia in September 2021 elevated relations and cooperation between the two countries to a new level.
