Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The plenary session of the National Forestry Forum being organized by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism under the auspices of the President of Mongolia has opened today at the State House.  President of  Mongolia U.Khurelsukh and Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene are participating in the event as keynote speakers. Moreover, Deputy Speaker of the State Great Khural T.Ayursaikhan delivered a message of the Parliament’s Speaker G.Zandanshatar.

In his address, President U.Khurelsukh emphasized that protecting the environment should be a national effort, attracting public attention and that there has been little progress in the effort.

“Not only those engaged in the environmental sector, but every citizen should show dedication in protecting and restoring forests for the future generation,” said the President, adding that one thousand tree-planting trainers will be prepared to provide assistance as tree-planting requires knowledge and skill.

More than 800 individuals including politicians, researchers, and local forestry specialists are taking part in the National Forestry Forum. Thematic sessions of the forum were held last week, where public and private partnerships, forestation and reforestation, desertification and land degradation, and introduction of agroforestry were discussed. At the thematic meeting on ‘Forestation and reforestation’, it was reported that MNT 10.2 billion was spent for forestation and reforestation of 14,768.5 hectares nationwide between 2016 and 2020.
