Minister of Foreign Affairs B.Battsetseg attended women foreign ministers informal gathering
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The Minister of Foreign Affairs B.Battsetseg
attended the Women Foreign Ministers informal gathering held on the sidelines
of the General Debate of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly.
The Women Foreign Ministers, UN Under-Secretary-General,
Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director of the UN Women, UN Assistant
Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Special
Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict as
well as Director of the UN Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS among other women
leaders from around the globe, who make significant contributions to the
efforts of the international community in the field of foreign policy, attended
the event. The participants exchanged views and experiences on the rights of
girls and women, their equal participation, the global situation after the
COVID-19 pandemic and many other pressing issues.
An informal “working group” of friends of Women Foreign Ministers
was initially founded in 1990 by former US Secretary of State Madeleine
Albright and former Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lind.
This year, the informal gathering, traditionally held over
the past two decades, was co-hosted by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of
Liechtenstein and Sweden.
Out of 193 UN member states, 34 have Women Foreign Ministers
and 21 of them attended the informal gathering.
