Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The Minister of Foreign Affairs B.Battsetseg attended the Women Foreign Ministers informal gathering held on the sidelines of the General Debate of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly.

The Women Foreign Ministers, UN Under-Secretary-General, Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director of the UN Women, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict as well as Director of the UN Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS among other women leaders from around the globe, who make significant contributions to the efforts of the international community in the field of foreign policy, attended the event. An informal “working group” of friends of Women Foreign Ministers was initially founded in 1990 by former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and former Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lind.

This year, the informal gathering, traditionally held over the past two decades, was co-hosted by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Liechtenstein and Sweden.

Out of 193 UN member states, 34 have Women Foreign Ministers and 21 of them attended the informal gathering.
