Views exchanged on increasing women’s participation at decision-making level
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Head of the Women’s Group in the State Great Hural D.Sarangerel yesterday received representatives led by chair of the French-Mongolian friendship group in the Senate of France Philippe Mouiller
During the meeting, the sides discussed and exchanged views on increasing women's participation at decision-making level and ensuring equal access to education at all levels, regardless of the remoteness of the region.
Head of the Women’s Group in the State Great Khural D.Sarangerel said, “Following the 2020 parliamentary election, 13 women were elected as Members of Parliament. Mongolia passed the Law on Gender Equality in 2011. In order to ensure gender equality in the parliament, the Law on Parliamentary Election stipulates that at least 20 percent of the candidates in a party must be of one gender. We are working to increase the quota to 30 percent.”
Chair of the
French-Mongolian friendship group in the Senate of France Philippe Mouiller
said, “I am pleased to hold a meeting with women parliamentarians and exchange
views on increasing women’s participation at decision-making level during the
visit. Women parliamentarians make up 35 percent of the Senate of France, which
is relatively higher than in most countries. However, there is a necessity
to raise it to 50 percent. As for the local level, it has been reached 50
percent. Equality in education is vital to increase the share of women in
decision-making, promote employment, and ensure gender equality in all
sectors. Members of the France-Mongolian Friendship Group in the Senate are willing
to expand parliamentary cooperation between the two countries. Therefore, the
Senate will provide all-around support.”
