Ulikhan and Khavirga border points to be connected by paved roads
SocietyUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On May 22, Prime Minister
L.Oyun-Erdene worked at Ulikhan border crossing port in Bayan-Uul soum, Dornod
aimag.
Mongolia has 26 border checkpoints and of which 13 are linked to the Russian Federation and another 13 are to China. There are five border crossing ports in Dornod aimag namely Khavirga, Ereentsav, Ulikhan, Bayankhoshuu and Sumber and none of them are connected by paved road.
The Government is aiming to increase capacity of
Ulikhan and Khavirga border checkpoints and connect them with centralized
tourism areas by auto roads. In specific, over 10 million tourists travel to
Primorsk and Khabarovsk regions of Russia and over 310 million tourists annually visit
Inner Mongolia, Jilin, Heilongjiang, Liaoning and their neighboring areas of China. Therefore, It is possible to gain MNT 150 billion revenue from tourism by attracting
0.06 percent of the abovementioned tourists to Mongolia or bringing the number of
tourists travel to eastern region to 200,000.
It is
also possible to grow the number of passengers and vehicles to come
from Russia and China up by 30-50 percent by building 71 km auto road in route of
Norovlin-Bayan-Uul, 46 km auto road in route of Bayan-Uul-Ulikhan and 124,5 km auto road
in route of Choibalsan-Khavirga. As a result, regional
social and economic development will be activated in various ways.
PM L.Oyun-Erdene assigned Ministers of Road and Transport Development and Finance to connect Chinggis city with Ulikhan border point by paved road within 2024 and study and resolve required funding for construction of complex at the border point.
