Mongolia to cooperate with World Bank to mitigate climate change
PoliticsUlaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. On March 4, Minister of Environment
and Tourism N.Urtnasan received World Bank Country Manager for Mongolia Andrei
Mikhnev. The Ministry of Environment and Tourism has been cooperating with the
World Bank for more than 30 years in implementing projects and programs to
reduce air pollution and protect the environment.
At the meeting, they discussed short and long-term effective
cooperation in the mitigation of climate change, protection of the environment,
rational use of natural resources, rehabilitation, and reduction of
environmental pollution.
Minister N. Urtnasan expressed a willingness to collaborate with the World Bank on major projects such as soil pollution reduction, afforestation, wastewater reuse, as well as sustainable use of natural resources.
Underlining that the WB’s major study on the impact of the
COVID-19 on tourism is nearly complete, Mr. Andrei Mikhnev said that cooperation possibilities for rapid recovery and capacity building of the tourism sector
would be explored.
As a conclusion of the meeting, the parties concurred to
work together for the mitigation of climate change, the reduction of greenhouse
gas emissions, and the implementation of effective projects and programs.
