COVID-19 cases in the capital city reach 491

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. At today’s daily briefing of the Ministry of Health on the latest update on the COVID-19 situation in Mongolia, A.Ambaselmaa, a Head of Surveillance Department of the National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD), has reported that the coronavirus was detected in 22 people, all in Ulaanbaatar city, after testing 11,581 people nationwide within the past 24 hours. 


Twelve of the newly confirmed cases are related to the cluster infections at Bayanzurkh district hospital and others are contacts of the previously confirmed cases; thus, the locally acquired cases have reached 817, of which 491 were recorded in the capital city.


“On January 4, a 76-year-old man diagnosed with COVID-19, chronic heart failure, arrhythmias and chronic venous insufficiency of the lower extremity died on the fifth day of treatment at the National Center for Communicable Diseases,” said A. Ambaselmaa. 


Today, the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases now stands at 1,308, with 884 recoveries. Currently, there are 413 people undergoing treatment at the hospitals.
