Altanbulag Free Trade Zone closed for indefinite period

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. At its meeting dated November 1, the Emergency Commission of Selenge aimag has resolved to close Altanbulag Free Trade Zone for an indefinite period.
The decision was made as a precautionary measure in regard to COVID-19 cases recorded in the neighboring Kyakhta region of the Republic of Buryatia, Russia, as well as increasing number of coronavirus cases that were detected from freight truck drivers arrived through Mongolia’s Altanbulag border crossing checkpoint in Selenge aimag.
The government of Mongolia, October 30, also decided to close border checkpoints with Russia - Borshoo in Uvs aimag and Tsagaainnuur in Bayan-Ulgii aimag for 21 days starting from November 2 to prevent from possible infection of COVID-19.
Total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Mongolia is now 350, all of them are ‘imported’ or detected from people who arrived from abroad and were placed under mandatory isolation. No local transmission has been detected in the country.
