Archaeological rescue unit to work at Khorig Mountain

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ With support of the Ministry of Culture, an archaeological rescue unit has been provided with possibilities to conduct research around Khorig Mountain situated in the territory of Ulaan-Uul soum of Khuvsgul aimag.
Archaeologists, anthropologists, historians, ethnographers and restorers from five organizations, namely the Institute of Archaeology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, National Museum of Mongolia, Institute of History and Ethnology, National Center for Cultural Heritage and Mongolian University of Science and Technology will take part in the field research.
A large number of tombs in Khorig Mountain which date back to the era of the Great Mongol Empire has been robbed and destroyed and the researchers have found out it by local people reported about it in summer of 2017.
Since it had not been allowed to conduct research at the historical site then, an archaeological rescue research had safeguarded the remaining findings and items around the site in 2018-2019.
According
to the plan, a rescue study for other artifacts that were robbed around Khorig
Mountain will continue in 2020 and the Cabinet approved a resolution on the
research financing from the Government Reserve Fund on September 25, 2019.
