Mongolia, S.Korea pledge to cooperate in food industry

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Speaker of the Parliament G.Zandanshatar met with Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Mongolia Lee Yeo-hong on August 11. Relations between Mongolia and the ROK have been expanding and developing in all areas at the level of Comprehensive Partnership.


At the start of the meeting, Speaker G.Zandanshatar said he is pleased that the 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries is being celebrated this year and the sides have announced 2020 as “Mongolia-ROK Friendship Year.”   

 

Ambassador Lee Yeo-hong expressed his delight that the Government of Mongolia has become able to continue its policies stably as a result of the recent election of Mongolia and his hope that the bilateral comprehensive partnership will be advanced to the level of strategic partnership in the future.  


Noting that the project being realized with financing from the EXIM Bank of South Korea is in slow progress compared to other similar ongoing projects, Speaker Zandanshatar asked the Ambassador to intensify progress of the project and achieve tangible results within the 30th anniversary of Mongolia-ROK diplomatic relations.


Afterwards, the South Korean ambassador noted his belief that the Mongolian parliament speaker will make efforts to promote people-to-people exchanges of the two countries and to enable South Korean nationals to travel visa-free to Mongolia.


The two sides also agreed on the opportunities to be opened up thanks to the construction of a new railroad in Mongolia, and to introduce South Korean high technologies in Mongolia’s renewable energy industry, and seek new cooperation opportunities in the food production industry. 


In particular, the Ambassador mentioned in his talk that Mongolia has numerous products that are popular or have great demand in South Korea, such as Mongolian organic garlic, seabuckthorn and chaga mushroom.


“Becoming a producer and exporting country of organic products is one of the priority of the Government of Mongolia. Therefore, there is a room of cooperation in this sphere and the parliament will work towards creating favorable legal environment for it, Speaker Zandanshatar highlighted.
