Confirmed COVID-19 cases reach 140

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. As a result of the repeated testing, four new COVID-19 cases were detected in returnees from Russia, bringing the total number of cases in Mongolia to 140, reported today, May 18, at the press briefing of the Ministry of Health.


According to D.Nyamkhuu, Director of the National Center for Communicable Diseases, one of the four patients is a military student, who is under isolation at NCCD, and others, who are returnees from Russia through Altanbulag border checkpoint, were staying under mandatory isolation in Darkhan-Uul and in Orkhon aimags. Now the patients in Darkhan-Uul and Orkhon aimags are being brought to the NCCD in Ulaanbaatar.


Yesterday, May 17, it was also announced that a Mongolian student, who came to Mongolia on the same plane with another 55 military students of Mongolia from Russia diagnosed with the virus upon their arrival in their home country, has been tested positive, marking the 136th case of COVID-19 in Mongolia. 


Today, three more patients, who have fully recovered from COVID-19, are being transferred into next stage precautionary supervision. Thus, the number of recoveries has reached 24 and 116 patients are under treatment at NCCD.
