IFAD Project for Market and Pasture management development in Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Ch.Ulaan met with Mr. Hubert Boirard, Country Director for Mongolia of International Fund for Agricultural Development.


Project for Market and Pasture Management Development (PMPMD) is being implemented by the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry in 18 soums of 6 target aimags from May 2018 to September 2021, with additional funding from International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) of United Nations.


Objective of the Project is to contribute to empower poor rural women and men to achieve higher incomes and sustainable improvements in their livelihoods. The project has three components: Market development; Pasture management and climate change adaptation; and Project management and enabling environment for business development. 


At the meeting, Mr. Hubert introduced the overall implementation progress of the Project to the Minister and then provided Investment planning for 2020 within a revised approach involving all soums of the aimags, which can reach over 480 thousand people and 44.8 million head of sheep livestock. To enable better pasture management and climate change adaptation, the local beneficiaries will receive investment and support from the project in total amount of MNT 7.9 billion, co-financing with 30 percent of the local budget and 70 percent of PMPMD.


The investment is planned to build 11 new fodder storages with hay shed, to dig 157 bore-well in total for increasing water supply for both animals and local residents, to build 78 sheep dipping facilities and others based on proposals of professionals of the ministry and locals.
