Women’s participation in disaster risk reduction and prevention to be increased

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. In aims of developing and implementing a legal framework, policy and strategy that is aware of climate change, disaster management, and gender equality, building capacity, reducing disaster risks and its prevention, and increasing women’s participation in the matters, a two-day seminar was co-organized by the National Emergency Management Agency, National Committee on Gender Equality, and the Asian Development Bank under the theme, ‘Climate change, disaster risk management, gender-sensitive policy and legal framework’, on November 11.

 

About 40 officials of the National Emergency Management Agency, Institute of Disaster Studies, the Emergency Management Agency of the Capital City, National Rescue Brigade, and Retraining and Rehabilitation Center attended the seminar. 

 

With an increasing number of disasters occurring due to climate change, the number of victims has also increased. According to a study done on the cases of disaster in 141 countries, women and children die in disasters 14 times more than men.
