Construction of wildlife crossings discussed
EnvironmentUlaanbaatar
/MONTSAME/ On October 14, the Ministry of Road and Transport Development in
collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Mongolia Programme Office organized a workshop themed ‘Wildlife crossings along linear
facilities’.
The meeting
brought together scholars and representatives from the Ministry of Environment
and Tourism, Ulaanbaatar Railway JSC, and environmental assessment and road
planning companies. The participants noted that it is now compulsory to comply
with the mandatory standard for Construction of Wildlife Crossings along the
road and road infrastructure in mountainous areas, but there are some
concerning issues. In particular, most of them agreed that changes have to be
made to some provisions of the regulations on road planning and environmental
impact assessment.
