Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. A regular autumn session of Mongolia’s Parliament opened today, with 74.7 percent turnouts.

Opening the autumn session, Parliament Speaker G.Zandanshatar delivered remarks, mentioning the parliament intends to discuss 186 bills and draft resolutions during the autumn session.

He said, “ We have only two regular sessions until the end of full power of this parliament, which was formed as a result of 2016 parliamentary election. Therefore, the autumn session will have tight schedules and workloads. We spent much time and efforts on discussing the Constitutional Amendments bill. As a result, we have completed to develop draft amendments to the Constitution, prioritizing interest of Mongolia and the people and resolved to conduct a referendum, giving high regard to consensus and understanding. The constitutional amendment is the social demand, but not the initiative of several people or any of political parties and  political step. This is the social will to look back the path we passed in the past 20 years, correct mistakes and confirm achievements; therefore, MPP and DP factions in the parliament are hereby requested to realize historical duties of this time and build possibilities to finalize it during the autumn session.”

Moreover, the autumn session will approve 2020 State Budget. Mongolia’s economy showed 5.3 percent growth in 2017 and 7.2 percent growth in 2018, making the budget in surplus of MNT27.8 billion. Working with intentions of reducing the budget deficit and bringing the budget into surplus from 2023 is the evidence of effective policy of the parliament and government, said the Speaker.

“During the autumn session, it needs to formulate bills regarding education, science and technology sectors and approve bills ready for discussion. The government is now formulating the country’s long-term plan ‘Vision-2045’, which will ensure sustainable development, thus the Parliament must be serious on it. …We also plan to consider bills on election, which will play a vital role to develop political parties and ensure people’s right to vote,” the Speaker said.
