Ambassador Ya. Ariunbold held meetings in British Columbia
PoliticsUlaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Canada recently held a meeting with Mr. Randall Martin, Executive Director of British Columbia Council for International Education (BCCIE) and Colin Doerr, Director of External Relations of the BCCIE.
At
the meeting, the parties discussed issues on increasing Mongolian students to
study in the Universities and Institutes of the province, involving the students
in scholarship, carrying out a cultural exchange program for secondary school
students and establishing a direct relation and cooperation between schools. The Ambassador
invited Mr. Randall Martin to visit Mongolia.
Moreover,
Mr. Ariunbold met with Dr.Murali Chandrashekaran, first Vice-Provost of the
University of British Columbia (UBC) and discussed about cooperating with the
university within its ‘Global citizen’ long-term program, receiving supports to
an ongoing project on renewal of curriculum being implemented at the School of
Mining Engineering of the Mongolia’s University of Science and Technology (MUST),
continuing this project, developing bilateral relations into the level so that
educational diploma can be mutually recognized, scrutinizing possibility to
open a branch of UBC in Mongolia as well as others.
As a follow-up action of the visit by Mongolian Minister of Environment and Tourism N.Tserenbat paid in August, 2018, the Ambassador met with Jorma Neuvonen, Director of Special Projects at UBC’s Forestry Faculty. The sides exchanged views on conducting joint research and training and studying a possibility to introduce standards of wooden materials into Mongolia, that builds 18-storey tall wooden buildings.
As
a part of his visit to the UBC, Mr. Ariunbold met with Mongolist Dr. Julian
Dierkes, associate professor at the UBC’s Institute of Asian Research (IAR) and
exchanged views on expanding a project being jointly implemented with MUST and
increasing Mongolian scholars to work at IAR. The Ambassador invited Dr. Julian
Dierkes to participate in the Mongolian Studies Conference to be organized in
Washington in February this year.
Furthermore, Ambassador
Mr.Ariunbold met with Mr. Robert Thomson, President of the Wrestling Association
of British Columbia, and concurred to establish official cooperation between
wrestling associations of Mongolia and BC, open a wrestling arena for Mongolian
children in Vancouver and study a possibility to organize a competition for
children of Mongolia and BC.
In the end, he met
with Mr. Bryan Cox, President and CEO of Mining Association of British Columbia
(MABC), and Mr. Lindsay Kislock, Vice President of MABC and invited them to
participate in Mining Mongolia investment forum to be held in Ulaanbaatar in
April this year.
