Improved fuel satisfies standard

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ With a purpose to reduce air pollution, the Government made a decision to ban raw coal consumption in the capital city from next May and introduce processed fuel into household use. 


A joint team from the General Agency for Specialized Inspection and the Special Inspection Authority of the Capital City became acquainted with activities of coal processing plants of ‘Tavantolgoi Tulsh’ LLC.   


They agreed to formulate a cooperation plan on eliminating defects detected during the examination made last September and October, preventing from potential risks as well as ensuring environmental and occupational safety. Moreover, sample analysis of the processed fuel made by the Central Geological Laboratory showed result that it satisfied ‘Improved Fuel’ MNS 5679:2014 quality standard.


Currently, the Company is selling its processed fuel at MNT 3750 for 25 kg. Consumers said that the improved fuel is cheaper than raw coal,  have high calorific value and emission from coal burning has been drastically reduced.


The two coal processing plants are expected to work at its full capacity in 2019, producing 700 thousand tons of processed fuel.

 

220 thousand households in Ulaanbaatar city burn one million and 200 thousand tons of coal annually and specialists calculate that it is possible to reduce air pollution up to 50 percent by burning 600 thousand tons of processed fuel.
