Mongolian delegation attending the 24th Conference of the Parties

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The 24th Conference of the Parties (COP 24) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was held on December 2-14 in Katowice, Poland. Over 200 countries and NGOs participated in the conference.

Special Envoy on Climate Change of Mongolia Z.Batjargal delivered speech at the High-level segment, Talanoa Dialogue and thematic discussions. In his speech, he noted that Mongolia is one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change and has been actively working with multilateral and bilateral mechanisms in mitigating adverse impacts of climate change. “Mongolia plans to submit its new Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) by 2020, upgrading the goal to reduce its GHG emissions by 14 percent by 2030 compared to a business as usual scenario,” he announced. Moreover, he said that Mongolia will fully support the implementation of Paris Agreement and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) special report on limiting global warming to 1.5 °C.

Mongolian delegation participated in over 30 sub-sessions and events, delivering speech and presenting introductions at 12 events.

In addition to approving the rulebook for implementing the landmark Paris Agreement on climate change, three important final documents including ‘Just Transition Declaration’, ‘Forests for Climate’ and ‘Driving Change Together Declaration’ were adopted at the conference.
