State Secretary D.Davaasuren attends 25th ASEAN Regional Forum Retreat Session

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs D.Davaasuren attended the 25th ASEAN Regional Forum Retreat Session in the Republic of Singapore on August 4.

The session was held in scope of the 51st ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting as well as follow-up meetings and conferences, and it was attended by Foreign Ministers from over 20 states including Russian Federation, People's Republic of China, United States, Republic of Korea, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, European Union, Argentine Republic, Republic of Turkey and Japan apart from Foreign Ministers of ten member states of the ASEAN. The regional event was aimed at combating terrorism and transnational crime, ensuring maritime safety, non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, collecting weapons and enhancing peacekeeping and defense cooperation by establishing mechanisms to strengthen trust and prevent conflict in the Asia-Pacific Region. The session also discussed issues including 2018 North Korea–United States summit in June, its achievement, North Korea’s nuclear program, situation on the Korean Peninsula, and Rohingya refugees from Myanmar to Bangladesh.

State Secretary D.Davaasuren delivered remarks at the meeting, presenting Mongolia’s actions and position on regional security issues in the Asia-Pacific. He held a meeting with Ng Teck Hean, Deputy State Secretary for Asia Pacific at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore and exchanged views on current political and economic relations between Mongolia and Singapore, as well as further cooperation. The parties agreed to hold Mongolia-Singapore Consultation Meeting in Ulaanbaatar next month. Moreover, the State Secretary met US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono, DPRK Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho, and Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation I.V.Morgulov, and shared views on bilateral ties and cooperation.
