EFTA was established in 1960. Since then it has signed 28 FTA with 38 countries as of June, 2018, agreeing to exempt some 90 percent of bilateral trade from import customs and tariffs directly. Moreover EFTA establishes a Joint Declaration on Cooperation with partner countries which is considered as the first step to cultivate free trade relations.
