Foreign Minister pays working visit to Russia

Moscow /MONTSAME/ On May 16-17 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia D.Tsogtbaatar is paying a working  visit to Moscow at the invitation of the Foreign Minister of Russia S.V.Lavrov.

On May 16 Foreign Minister of Russia S.V.Lavrov received Minister D.Tsogtbaatar and discussed bilateral cooperation, implementation of the Mongolia-Russia Mid-term Strategic Partnership Program signed in 2016 and international and regional pressing issues.

At the beginning of the meeting Minister S.V.Lavrov said “A constant relationship between us demonstrates that the two countries are an important strategic partners. In August and September last year, Presidents of the two countries expressed their willingness to expand cooperation in all fields. Recently, officials of the Security Council of the two countries discussed issues regarding defence, road transport, energy, economy, agriculture and foreign relations. The regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation held in February greatly contributed to the bilateral cooperation. Next year will be the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Battle of Khalkhin Gol, which is the symbol of our friendly relations and brotherhood. During my visit to Ulaanbaatar in 2016, we approved the Mongolia-Russia Mid-term Strategic Partnership Program. This visit is a great opportunity to review how the agreements are being implemented.”

Foreign Minister of Mongolia D.Tsogtbaatar expressed his gratitude for the successful development of bilateral relations and cooperation, noting that Russia is one of Mongolia's major strategic partners.

“I am confident that we will discuss and resolve the issues that need to be resolved in the near future. Mongolia and Russia support each other not only in the bilateral, but also in multilateral cooperations. In 2017 Mongolia-Russia trade turnover increased by more than 30 percent. A lot of Mongolian students studying in Russia, which is a sign of our active bilateral relations in the future. Mongolia is a familiar market for Russian business community. We are inviting Russian investors and entrepreneurs specifically of the energy and infrastructure sectors, as well as other fields. Russia-China trade turnover has rapidly grown in recent years and it is clear that it will reach USD 200 billion soon. Mongolia is aiming to become part of this economy and trade as it is on the transit way of this circulation.”

Minister D.Tsogtbaatar also emphasized that a favorable condition for the tourism and business tourism development has been created as a result of the visa-free travel.
