Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ March 6 marks the 105th anniversary of founding of journalism in Mongolia.

On this occasion, Kh.Mandakhbayar, President of the Confederation of Mongolian Journalists (CMJ) extended his greeting to all journalists on behalf of the central body uniting Mongolian media organizations.

“Historical sources indicate that the first newspaper published in Mongolia was ‘Shine Toli’ (New Mirror) dated March 6, 1913. At the end of 2016, we had 125 TV channels, 89 newspapers, 80 magazines, 96 news websites and 56 radio channels actively operating in the country, employing 4,726 people.

Mongolian media need to survive the market competition in the globalizing world, keep abreast of the development in global journalism while maintaining its own characteristics, and adapt to multimedia journalism.

On the other hand, there are new challenges to identify the policy for professional online journalism, ensure the intellectual and professional rights of journalists, and protect the copyrights and content standards of media organizations.

As an organization that has been continually operating for 67 years in a 105-year-old industry, the CMJ is making active efforts to adjust to the change of trend in journalism while solidifying the accomplishments to date, lead the new development and realize a new policy and management to strengthen the international cooperation of Mongolian media organizations.

The implementation of the CMJ’s 2018-2022 action plan began with the strengthening of our provincial councils. We are working towards the full implementation of ‘105th Anniversary Creative Activities’ program throughout 2018 in celebration of the anniversary,” the greeting said.

The CMJ President also noted the role of senior journalists in nurturing journalism in Mongolia.
