Mongolia and ADB sign agreement to support vegetable farming

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME Government of Mongolia and Asian Development Bank established project agreement on Improving Livelihood by Supporting Vegetable Production to be implemented with non-refundable aid of USD3 million from Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction (JFPR).  

The agreement was signed by Ch.Khurelbaatar, Minister of Finance and Yolanda Fernandez Lommen, ADB Country Director in Mongolia on December 14.

The project is targeted to back farmer’s livelihood as increasing efficiency of farming procedure.   
 
"The project will give support on actions taken by Government of Mongolia in directions of increasing profits of agricultural products via value chain, enhance adaptation to climate change and strengthen farmer’s capacity" said Ms.Yolanda Fernandez underlining that the idea of the project is applicable to any region of Mongolia.  

Within the project new model greenhouses will be built and drop watering system, small-scale water reservoir for farms and other equipment will be introduced in order to extend growing season and to  increase vegetable varieties to plant. The project will also give support to improve possibilities of farmers  to enter to market and strengthen farmers capacity.
 
Over the last 16 years the JFPR has successfully implemented 33 projects in Mongolia in the fields of education, health, social protection and environmental protection.
