Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On December 5, Canadian Ambassador to Mongolia David Sproule and Chairman of the Mineral Resources and Petroleum Authority of Mongolia (MRPAM), B. Baatartsogt today cut the ribbon officially opening a new, fully equipped training room at the second building of MRPAM’s headquarters in the Songinokhairkhan district, Ulaanbaatar.

The training room and equipment is provided under the auspices of two Canadian Government funded projects:  Mongolia – Enhancing Resource Management through Institutional Transformation (MERIT); and, Strengthening Extractive Sector Management in Mongolia (SESMIM). Both of these projects are building capacity of MRPAM to improve staff professional development in order to enhance public sector management of the extractive sector.

As a part of this collaboration, the MRPAM training facility has been equipped with new and modern equipment to deliver online and face-to-face training to government staff and stakeholders, and to improve communications.

Capacity to hold online forums is another added value for this initiative which is critically important to address the growing need for consultations with communities impacted by the mining industry and stakeholders located abroad and isolated rural communities in Mongolia for whom internet access is increasingly becoming available.
