UNEP Executive Director visiting Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Erik Solheim, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, is paying an official visit to Mongolia at the invitation of D.Oyunkhorol, Acting Minister of Environment and Tourism on September 13-14.

On Wednesday, the Minister held a meeting with Erik Solheim and his team. D.Oyunkhorol briefed about the Mongolian environment sector to Erik Solheim, and discussed about launching a new technology to reduce environmental and air pollution. Regarding the issue, the sides also discussed increasing engagement of the state, private sector and citizen and empowering them and building capacity.
 
Mongolia decided to join the Breathlife global campaign co-managed by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Health Organization (WHO). An opportunity is opened for Mongolia to cooperate with other countries that are working on reducing air pollution thanks to joining this campaign. The UNEP Executive Director applauded the Mongolian Government for approving a national program on air pollution reduction.

The Government of Mongolia is seeking actions to solve air pollution issue, and ensured preparation for establishing the Green Loan Fund based under the public-private partnership. The Fund's objective is to give low-interest loans to researchers and projects from organizations launching environmentally-friendly new products.
