Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The State Third Hospital has reduced the number of untreatable diseases in Mongolia by offering treatment for arrhythmia and latest versions of cerebral surgeries. On May 24, State Secretary for Health D.Ochirbat visited the hospital.

He got acquainted with the operations of the hospital, workload for physicians and various departments and listened to the workers and patients expressing their opinions on problems facing Mongolia’s health sector nowadays, and gave some directions.

The State Third Hospital has been paying close attention to decreasing patients’ travel to other countries to receive expensive treatments. The hospital has brought 13 new technologies and treatment methods to Mongolia, such as the treatment for arrhythmia by cardiac ablation and cerebral bypass surgery. A request has been submitted by the hospital’s authorities to remove three diseases from the list of 39 types of diseases that cannot be diagnosed and treated in Mongolia.

Ablation surgery for treating arrhythmia costs approximately USD 20-40 thousand. Thanks to the fact that the Health Insurance Fund is covering 75-80 percent of the cost for surgical instruments, an arrhythmic patient is able receive the above mentioned surgery in his or her home country at the price of only MNT 7-8 million (USD 3-4 thousand).
