First Cinema Awards, the Oscars of Mongolian cinema hosted

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The first Cinema Awards ceremony to award the best works in Mongolian cinema was co-organized by Arts Council of Mongolia and IMAX Cinema on May 19, Friday at the Corporate Hotel & Convention Center.

Dubbed as the Oscars of Mongolia, the Cinema Awards ceremony was co-hosted by comedy actor T.Barkhuu and model, actress D.Purevsuren.
 
The first stage selection of the Cinema Awards considered 47 movies that were made in 2016, and resulted in the short-listing of 12 movies – ‘Urtuu’ (Station), ‘Buu Mart’ (Never Forget), ’Eej’ (Mother), ‘Atgand Uldsen Erdene’ (Golden Treasure), ‘Itgel’ (Faith), ‘Urgeeleg 2’ (Trapped Abroad), ‘Shuuder Dunduur’ (Through the Dew), ‘Az Jargal’ (Happiness), ‘Tsagaan Khadak’ (White Khadak), ‘Lovers’, ‘Uvliin Tuuj’ (Winter Tale) and ‘Zurgaa Dahi Husel’ (Sixth Will) for 14 nominations at the film awards.

Critically acclaimed film ‘Itgel’ bagged three awards in the categories ‘Best Picture’, ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Music Score’ whereas ‘Best Director’ went to J.Sengedorj for ‘Lovers’, and People’s Artist D.Mendbayar won ‘Best Actress’ with ‘Eej’.

Moreover, Ts.Delger won ‘Best Make-Up Artist’ with ‘Buu Mart’, B.Bilguutei ‘Best Sound Editing’ with ‘Urgeeleg 2’, D.Angarag ‘Best Cinematography’ with ‘Atgand Uldsen Erdene’, T.Bum-Erdene ‘Best Screenwriter’ with ‘Urgeeleg 2’ and P.Berkheedei ‘Best Costume Design’ with ‘Urtuu’. ‘Best Actress in a Supporting Role’ was awarded to U.Uranchimeg for her work in ‘Atgand Uldsen Erdene’ and Ts.Tumurkhuyag won ‘Best Actor in a Supporting Role’ with ‘Eej’.
 
The jury of the first Cinema Awards comprised People’s Artist, director G.Jigjidsuren, People’s Writer B.Dogmid, State Honored Cultural Figure, director G.Zoljargal, State Honored Cultural Figure, poet Ts.Khulan, State Honored Cultural Figure, writer U.Khurelbaatar, Khamba Lama of Gandantegchenling Monastery D.Choijamts, People’s Artist, singer Kh.Urtnasan, State Prize Laureate, painter S.Narantsatsralt and model Kh.Badamgerel.
