Mining ministry’s foreign relations in May

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Ministry of Mining presented the foreign cooperation activities accomplished this month at the Transparent Mining press briefing on May 26. The Minister R.Jigjid has received Indian ambassador Somnath Gosh to discuss about potential Indian investment in Mongolia’s coking coal sphere.

The meeting took place on May 2 at the Ministry. The sides exchanged opinions on drawing Indian investment to coking coal industry, thus, promoting the opportunity of coking coal industry to India, as well as on restoring the bilateral working group actions on uranium.

Minister expressed the affiliated ministry’s interest on deepening the mineral resource-related ties with India, and the sides agreed to collaborate on human capacity building in mining sector.

The Minister has also met with Mr Dazhu Yang, the Deputy Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the head of Technical Cooperation Department. Mr R.Jigjid gave information on current state of Mongolia’s mining sector and its legal grounds. Mr Yang highlighted that there are wide range of possibilities of cooperation in nuclear energy.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Mining D.Artag worked in the Republic of Korea on May 5. He met with Mr Tito Saul Pinilla, the non-resident ambassador of Columbia to Mongolia. Mr Artag handed him the draft of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in geology and mining, providing for, in particular, the regulations on investment and taxation, mining sector policies, training mining specialists in SENA, the Columbian national training center, management and legalization of artisanal mining, mineral resource classification system, mine operational and shut down technologies.
