PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Ninth Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting was organized in Ulaanbaatar. On the results of this meeting, the Speaker of the State Great Khural Z.Enkhbold made press briefing on April 22.
Mongolia hosted the ASEP meeting for the first time and has completed it with a success. More than 170 delegates from 32 countries took part in this meeting, and the lawmakers from the two continents adopted a Declaration, noted the Speaker.
All sub-conferences and meetings have undergone in friendly and collaborative atmosphere, he added.
The ninth ASEP meeting coincided with the 20th anniversary of the Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership and ASEM. The lawmakers from the two continents exchanged views and opinions on national and regional peace and security issues, climate change and sustainable development, along with the review of 20-year work within the Asia-Europe parliamentary partnership.
The Asian-European parliamentarians had a shared position to pursue the universal principles and norms of the peaceful means of negotiations and dialogue while discussing the pressing issues of the world and the region, the Speaker said.
Positions and votes proposed by countries have been reflected in the Declaration on the basis of a collective consensus. The Asian and European parliamentarians unanimously agreed on the aspiration on the further support for the ASEM actions for consolidating the partnerships between the two regions, reassuring the ties between ASEM and ASEP, and increasing a role of parliaments in mobilizing the shared objectives and interests of the peoples from the two continents.
The ASEP9 was of great significance as it has broken the wind of actions that will take place in the margin of the upcoming 11th ASEM Summit. As the saying goes in Mongolia, “a good starts make a good finish, so we are confident that the next actions will be as successful as the ASEP9”, concluded Mr Z.Enkhbold.
