Road between Tosontsengel and Uliastai to be built with Chinese soft loan
At its yesterday’s meeting, the cabinet approved a draft of revised Government resolution on projects to be implemented with a soft loan of USD500 million, granted from the Government of the People’s Republic of China to the Government of Mongolia.

Mongolia's Steppe Road and China's Belt and Road initiatives to be harmonized
Yesterday, in its meeting the cabinet discussed and backed draft memorandum of understanding between Governments of Mongolia and People’s Republic of China (PRC) on coordinating initiatives ‘Steppe road’ and ‘The Belt and Road’. ‘The Belt and Road’ initiative has become interior and foreign policy strategy of PRC since Chinese leader Xi Jinping had proposed it and China appeals countries of the world to join the initiative. The initiative focuses on connectivity and cooperation in policy coordination, infrastructure construction, trade and finance and people to people relations among 65 countries, covering East Asian 11 countries, West Asian 18, South Asian 8, Central Asian 5, Commonwealth of Independent States’ 7, Middle east and east European 16 countries

Erdenet mine shows profit of MNT86.7 billion in first quarter
Erdenet Mining Corporation, one of the largest copper mine has worked with a profit of MNT86.7 billion, paying tax of MNT135.5 billion in the first quarter of this year. Yesterday, May 02, Parliamentary Economic Standing Committee heard of current situation and other issues related to the company. Some factors including copper price in the world market and exchange rates have influenced to work in such profit, said the Company Director Kh.Badamsuren.

Neil Saker: IMF is cautious about investment environment worsening
The International Monetary Fund Executive Board has postponed making a final decision on its Extended Financial Facility (EFF) in Mongolia. The delay is caused by a parliamentary resolution clause on currency transmission of large-scale projects through Mongolian banks. The Executive Board was expected to make the final decision during their meeting last week. Today, on May 02, IMF Resident Representative Neil Saker gave explanations regarding the issue during a press conference at the State House. He said that the EFF has two main goals, including overcoming economic difficulties and creating policy foundation that ensures economic growth in the long term. Policy measures will be largely implemented on budget. The IMF backs the Government plan to reduce budget deficit, lowering it to 10.5 per cent of GDP this year and to have a positive balance by the beginning of 2020.

Darkhan-Uul to mark ‘Humanitarian day’ on 8th of every month
Darkhan-Uul aimag will mark the 8th of every month as “Humanitarian day”. The Citizens’ Representative Meeting of Darkhan-Uul aimag backed the proposal of the Red Cross Society's branch in the aimag, considering it as a proper to encourage government organizations, NGOs, citizens and companies to involve in humanitarian and charitable campaigns across the aimag.

Uvurkhangai develops cooperation with Allier department of France
Uvurkhangai aimag has a cooperation agreement with Allier department of France over 15 years. Uvurkhangai aimag delegates headed by the Chairman of the Citizens’ Representative Meeting of the aimag visited Allier in November, 2016, holding talks on cooperation directions in 2017.   The agreements during the visit started to be realized in the agriculture sector. A student of the National Agriculture Institute of Toulouse city Nina Jeron has come to Kharkhorin soum to teach European technology of making cheese to local women and conduct experimental cheese production in Bat-Ulzii soum, planning to work there till September 15.

Children’s hospital to be built in Nalaikh district of Ulaanbaatar
A children’s hospital with 50 beds will be built in Nalaikh, remote district of Ulaanbaatar with grant of ‘Khangardi-Ulaanbaatar’ NGO and Peace and Friendship Fund of People’s Republic of China.  The foundation laying ceremony of the hospital was held on April 28. Nalaikh district has a population of 36 thousand and children aged 0-15 years old make 32 per cent of the total population, newborns increase by 900 annually.

‘Gobi Wolf’ international exercise is running for sixth time
Gobi wolf’ international exercise training started today, May 1, in Umnugobi aimag, organized by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), USA Embassy in Mongolia and U.S. Army Pacific for the sixth time. The training aims to improve the regional readiness in response to natural disasters, to ensure implementation of newly adopted law on Disaster prevention and to test management and organizational structure and tools for disaster response as well as to improve civil-military cooperation of the parties. “- ‘Gobi Wolf’ exercise is expanding year by year with increased number of international participants and it has become a 'Mongolian brand'-disaster response exercise. This year, the exercise is running under the theme ‘Let’s spread our knowledge and share experiences” said Brigade General T.Badral, NEMA Chairman.

Budget deficit forecasted to be 9.5 per cent of GDP
Bills on 2018 Fiscal framework statement and 2019-2020 Budget assumption were submitted to the Parliament. The documents indicated that budget deficit in GDP would be 9.5 per cent in 2018, 6.9 in 2019 and 5.1 per cent in 2020 in compliance with goals to ensure budget unity in the midterm, to reduce budget deficit in stages, restrict expenditure growth, stabilize Government debt in legal threshold, ensure macroeconomic growth through budget stabilization. Fiscal framework statement bill was developed following to preliminary performance report of 2016 budget, midterm budget indicators, which agreed within the framework of the Extended Fund Facility program to be implemented with the International Monetary Fund and special fiscal requirements, which is defined in the Fiscal Stability law.

Raised three taxes come into effect today
Amendments to the 2017 State Budget laid out to raise seven types of taxes as the Government agreed with the International Monetary Fund in the scope of a three-year Extended Fund Facility. Tax rate increase of three types of taxes is coming into effect starting today, May 01. Those include tax on interest of bank savings, customs tax on imported cigarettes and excise tax on passenger cars.
