Doctors’ criminal responsibility re-considered by Cabinet
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Cabinet approved the draft amendments to the Criminal Code of Mongolia at its Monday’s regular meeting. The amendment is about alleviating the sentences for physicians, in case of harming health and lives of patients.
The new Criminal Code, adopted last December, sets out that a physician will be imposed a cancellation of medical license or disqualification up to 3 years and cash fine of 900 thousand – 80 million MNT or imprisonment of 2-8 years, in the cases of death and serious harm to health of patients due to mistreat by doctor or any medical professional.
Physicians, on the other hand, submitted a demand to the Government arguing that this provision of the law is a maltreatment for physicians, as they are similar responsibilities to that which should be imposed upon deliberate crimes.
