Foreign Minister Battsetseg Meets UNCCD Executive Secretary

April 15, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Minister of Foreign Affairs Battsetseg Batmunkh
received Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat
Desertification (UNCCD) Yasmine Fouad on April 14.
During the
meeting, Minister Battsetseg emphasized the significant role and importance of
the conference in addressing interconnected global challenges such as
desertification, land degradation, drought, climate change, and food security.
She also underlined the importance of organizing the conference in a more
streamlined and efficient manner, taking into account the current geopolitical
challenges facing the world.
She further
noted that some issues remain unresolved within the conference preparations and
stressed that active participation, mutual understanding, and joint efforts
among all parties are essential to move these matters forward. Mongolia
reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to work closely with the Convention
Secretariat to advance ongoing negotiations under the framework of the
convention.
Executive
Secretary Yasmine Fouad congratulated Minister Battsetseg on her appointment as
President of the conference and expressed full confidence in her ability to
successfully carry out this important responsibility. She also affirmed her
continued support and active cooperation for the remainder of the preparations
for the conference.
