Prime Minister Calls for Full Transparency in COP17 Funding

Ulaanbaatar, April 14, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Prime Minister Uchral Nyam-Osor attended a regular meeting of the National Committee responsible for organizing the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
During the meeting, the PM emphasized that the allocation and
spending of the conference budget must be transparent and open to the public
from the very beginning. He noted that COP17 holds significant importance for
attracting foreign investment, fostering innovation, and strengthening
international partnerships.
The government pays great attention to the conference’s preparation
and organization, ensuring that any issues are addressed promptly and efficiently.
Pressing issues discussed during the meeting will be consolidated and presented
at this week’s Cabinet session, where official directives are expected to be
issued.
COP17 presents an important opportunity for Mongolia to
deepen cooperation on addressing the country’s pressing challenges such as land
degradation, desertification and climate changes. The PM also reaffirmed the
government’s commitment to advancing green development initiatives.
The UNCCD COP17 is scheduled to take place in Mongolia from
August 17-28 this year, with participation expected from UN member states,
affiliated organizations, and major international financial institutions such
as the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. An estimated 8,000 to 10,000
delegates are expected to attend.
To support
preparations, 12 sub-committees have been established. Of the 782 planned
tasks, approximately 55.9% have been completed so far.
