Ulaanbaatar, April 10, 2026 /MONTSAME/. On the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of educational cooperation between Mongolia and the Federal Republic of Germany, Cultural Envoy of Mongolia and artist Gan-Erdene Tsend will present his solo exhibition “In the Upper World” at the Chinggis Khaan National Museum from May 8 to June 13, 2026.

Gan-Erdene Tsend graduated from the School of Fine Arts of the Mongolian State University of Arts and Culture in 2001 and later from the Academy of Fine Arts in Münster, Germany, in 2010. The artist currently lives and works between Ulaanbaatar and Münster.

Serving as a Cultural Envoy of Mongolia since 2022, Gan-Erdene Tsend’s artistic practice explores the space between heaven and earth, the interdependence of nature and humanity, and philosophical reflections on the boundary between abstraction and reality. His works are deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of the steppe, nomadic traditions, and an atmosphere of silence and contemplation.

According to the artist’s philosophy, “A human being exists simultaneously in two realms.” One is the physical, material world, while the other is an inner world composed of consciousness, imagination, faith, and memory. When this inner existence appears through reflections on water surfaces or shadows, the immaterial quality of reflection reveals intuitive and profound emotional dimensions.

Since 2009, the concept of reflection has become central to Gan-Erdene Tsend’s artistic expression, linking inner thoughts, beliefs, and aspirations with the external world. Through this approach, the seemingly abstract inner universe is connected with the idea of the “Upper Sky,” portraying human existence in relation to the continuous flow of time, eternity, and the ancient Mongolian tradition of sky worship. Works built upon this concept were previously presented to Mongolian audiences in his 2023 solo exhibition “Words of the Windblown Thistle.”

The artist has successfully participated in the international Art Karlsruhe exhibition in Germany. His works are held in the collections of Museum Burg Vischering, Art Collection Henkell, VHV Holding Group, and the Benetton Art Collection in Italy.

Gan-Erdene Tsend has organized and participated in over 200 solo and group exhibitions at prestigious museums and galleries worldwide, including the United Nations Headquarters in New York, KIAF Korea International Art Fair, and the SCOPE Basel International Art Fair, as well as exhibitions in the Netherlands, Denmark, the Republic of Korea, Kosovo, and Mongolia. He has also received several distinguished international art awards in Germany.
